23 Jan 07 Early adopter-ness within me

The early adopter within me has spoken again tonight. I upgraded to Wordpress 2.1 (yay it auto saves drafts now, just like gmail!) six hours after it was released. Pretty smooth upgrade. Have to find all my plugins again but nothing serious. In my personal life I am quite the early adopter and sometimes can be professionally but recently I’ve learned (without burning myself, yay!) to slow down a little. It does help that I have a test environment that reflects the personal environment so I can experiment in the office without causing major damage. Thats probably why the apache 1.3 migration to apache 2.0/2.2 migration was so easy and painless :-) .

Knowing me… I’ll probably buy Leopard the night it comes out. Yeah I know.. I’m sad.

08 Jan 06 New look

So I installed a new theme called K2 (http://binarybonsai.com/wordpress/k2/). Right now under Firefox it has img borders around the images to the right. This should be fixed soon.

In the future this theme will allow me to integrate Gallery2 inside of Wordpress w/o breaking the width.

03 Jan 06 Some site updates

Hola,

Made some changes to the website tonight.

  1. Created sub-albums on my photo gallery. Now Cam (who has her own digital camera) has a section for her albums as well, plus it makes it look cleaner & more organized.
  2. Updated the blog’s backend from Wordpress 1.5.2 to Wordpress 2.0.
  3. Created a digg.com category and tech related category. Posts from the last 2 weeks have the new categories, previous posts will not.

That’s all for now. I’m probably going to re-theme the site in the upcoming month now that I am becoming more active on my blog.

14 Dec 05 Gallery is back!!

Yup! Finally the gallery is back in full swing. I installed Gallery2 on it and it seems to work very nicely.

At the same time I dumped Fedora and put something much better on it. Well actually I just found better hardware and decided to go the Intel route (just like Apple next year). However OS X at one point stemmed directly off of FreeBSD (it still has a lot of similarities today), so I haven’t betrayed the mighty Apple.

Current setup:
FreeBSD 6.0
Apache 2.0.55
MySQL 5.0.16
PHP 5.1.1

Basically that means it has the latest of everything. I can also use Webmin now to administer the server remotely. Webmin is very nice stuff. If I was rich I would donate lots of money to see new versions of it. They just need a better default skin, however stress-free has a skin that looks very similiar to OS X 10.4, it even has a working Spotlight tool.

Bringing back the Gallery only because I am getting a new digital camera for Xmas so I can return to taking pictures. Not only that, but I have 3 throw-away cameras that need developing.

Go here to see the new and improved gallery:

or just click the link to the left (the one that says picture gallery)

31 Oct 05 back online

Back online after a week being down?

Why was this corner in the web down?

Well the #1 reason would be change of providers. I am now hosted by my employer basically on my own computer amoung many other computers. It gives me total control over the software and hardware I run on the machine. If I want to run bleeding edge software, then I can do so. Oh and another improvement? I save money and I can host for friends if they want me too.

Why did it take so long?

I really was lazy to move it over. Honest answer…

Does it mean I’ll blog more?

Probably not… blogging has kind of taken a back seat in my life. Rather then bitching about my life, I make it a point to go out and do something about it. I got sick of Speakeasy, thus I got a new job type of deal. What will eventually happen is I’ll start taking more and more pics. I lost my digital camera during the move (big loss to be honest) and ever since then I have had SO many moments where I am like… I have to take a picture… but I can’t. This has GOT to change. I want to get a digital camera but I’ll see if I can get one for Xmas first. I have had three throwaway cameras collecting dust, 2 of em are full and the last one is ALMOST there… at that time you shall see a huge surge of pics.

Speaking of which… photogallery is offline probably for another week or so. Gallery 2 came out about a month ago, so I want to upgrade to that first.
