The ins and outs of Yvo’s life.

Well its official, the iMac 20″ rev B has definitely some issues. Sure it could be streak of bad luck, but really… its gone back now twice for the same exact problem: Logic board & power supply problem. Two times now have they had to replace it. The repair costing $900 (covered by warranty and soon to be AppleCare) each time, already basically paying for the iMac (2x $900).
This time around they, the southcenter Apple Store, was a lot quicker at fixing the Mac but at a hefty cost. First thing I did when I took the iMac out of the box is open up the back to take a look since I have to insert my elsewhere purchased memory (from Crucial.com) as Apple won’t even touch my Mac if I dont take it out. When I opened up the Mac from the back I noticed something immediately. The cable that runs to the HD sensor (which is awfully close to the memory banks) was basically blocking the first memory bank from having any memory inserted, thus the Apple tech put it in my 2nd bank. A simple fix with a flat head screw to push the cable down made this problem go away. However my 2nd observation is when I noticed the power cable to “FAN1″ was completely disconnected. As in, not even close to plugged in. “FAN1″ is the fan to the CPU, aka the blazing hot G5 that Apple is literally running away from. At this point I get worried and do a complete inspection with what I can see without removing any components. I didn’t find anything else, but a lot of the iMac is covered with various pipes, heatsinks and what not.
It worries me that the Mac genuises did such a sloppy job. I know dealing with ipod after ipod can deter you from working on computers, but this was a pretty terrible job. I say this knowing my girlfriend works at that very same store. I am just glad that the iMac rev B (and A) allow easy access to work on the computer, however Rev C & the new Intel iMacs do NOT allow this so if the same Mac genuis had worked on a Rev C and my computer started smoking, I’d be in deeper problems.
So the moral of the story: I’d rather wait 10 days (like last time) for a computer that comes back without flaws then 3 days where my dad could’ve done a better job.

is the day that I will quit.
Someone at my work has taken it upon himself to ‘pre-screen’ my emails as I tend to send out very challenging emails. This guy is known for shoving things under the rug and I have become untrustworthy of. I requested books for maybe $40-$50 in mid-November. It is beginning of April now, and I still don’t have them.
If he really tries to push it on me to screen my emails, I will just leave… no ifs, buts, whens or whys. I will not ever get censored, period.

Need medicine to control your anxiety problem? Come to your neighborhood Walgreens. The friendly people there will lift your spirits with kind words like “CrAzY B****” and “psycho” stamped in your Prescription’s notes and posted in their national database. At least that’s how good Walgreens service has been in Florida lately…

Am I one of the only people that thinks she probably DESERVED being called a “CrAzY B****”. Having worked retail & fast food I can tell you first-hand experience that people are terrible. They are disrespectful, pushy, and unwilling to listen. Not to be too stereotypical but generally it are the women between the ages of 25 to (time of death) that are the bitchiest, with the worst batch being when they have kids living at home. They are just plainly mean. It is either their way or the highway and they aren’t too scared to let you know either.
So what that Walgreens is putting done, what sounds to me USEFUL, notes in their system. Interesting that it seems public facing, but really so what. It is helpful for other employees to know that they have a ticking time bomb in the store. Nothing is worse then when one of these rude ladies start making a scene with their jibber jabber. I can just picture the conversation now. I completely support Walgreens and I am probably going to shop their now.
What is really funny out of all this… this story SHOWS you how intolerable these women are. They finally get told by someone that they are rude and “CrAzY B****” and what do they do… call their fucking lawyer.

I guess I finally woke up and feel like most people in the world. Here I thought I had found something good, something I could hold on to. Nope… I was wrong. As of now… I have significantly less motivation in doing my job. Believe me, I had a lot of it… but basically it feels like someone attempted to rip off my nads and then stomp on them… for something I didn’t even know I was doing wrong.
I really hope I feel better by Saturday.

Michael Dell, Dell’s Chairman, announced at CES that future computers may use AMD processors in place of Intel’s processors that Dell is known for using.

They always say this, every year. I’m too lazy to look up sources but Dell has been saying this for years. My paranoid side even thinks Intel pays them to say this. It is a lot cheaper to pay one company to say they are going to use a product in the future and use it in court then to lose in court (AMD is suing Intel for illegal selling practices).

Is it so hard for people to reply to email. Seriously…. I’m not going to go into exaggerating details… but sheesh. It is quickly turning into a pet peeve of mine.
That is all…

Radio sucks, it is worse then TV. On TV they don’t even pull stunts like this unless your name is FOX. However on radio they pull this too often. Too often shows get removed, added and completely revamped, maybe its just a Seattle thing. For example in the last 3 years 96.5 has changed names / formats 4 times. Yikes!
Every morning for some time now I have been listening to The Morning Alternative. Before that it was the Marconi Show (thank god they pulled that though) and prior to that it was Andy Savage. I listened to Andy Savage for the longest time and I woke up to his humor every morning during high school. Entercom wouldn’t renew his contract and so he left and went somewhere else, however during that moment I wasn’t living in the weee hours of the morning. I then started working morning shifts again (think Speakeasy) and I started listening to The Marconi Show and quickly switched my listening over to CDs, until I heard that DJ No Name switched to mornings. I quickly dropped CDs and listened to him. Soon Jennifer White joined and I was once again in radio heaven.
That dream evaporated last week when I heard that starting this Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006 the new morning show will be Adam Carolla. One word: YUCK!. First off I can’t stand the guy. I hate Loveline and anything to do with syndicated shows (unless your Howard Stern), in my opinion it completely obliterates the local community. I don’t want to listen to some jackass in the morning talking about his stardom life in LA or NYC. I liked DJ No Name (realname Bob VanDyne) and Jennifer White because they were regular people who bitched about Seattle traffic and had fun doing their jobs. So now I am going back to CDs and maybe invest in an adapter for my iPod to plugin to my car radio (FM transmitters are a joke, no matter what anyone says). I sure am not going to listen to Adam Carolla. The guy is simply not funny and just frankly annoying. I guess it was fun while it lasted. Entercom’s The End has officially hit ‘The End” on my radio.

Spyware/Keyloggers arnt just a windows problem anymore. A few applications have silently made their way onto the Mac platform, spawning a company called MacScan to create the first Anti-Spyware/Keylogger app.

This story is hilarious. I mean that is all I can say about it. This guy is basically not offering any proof at all. I should create a program for OS X that scans and scans the hard drive and shows a pretty progress bar doing it and sell it for $24.95, because that is exactly what this guy is doing. He is claiming there are dozens of spyware titles out and about for OS X, well first off I have never heard of this guy so why should I believe him and second Apple to this day claims there is no spyware and viruses for OS X.
In other words this guy is an idiot and talking out of the side of his neck. I guess we all need to make a buck on this world, but I think now that this is public, he is asking for a public beating.
I hope there is an angry group of OS X users that will deface his website and put something like “Got Spyware?” a direct parody of the “Got Milk?” commercials during the late 90s.

So it was months ago (July) that I couldn’t find my digital camera anymore. I first realized it was missing when Cam and I went on a weekend trip to Mt. Rainier in August. Cam and I looked everywhere, the apartment, boxes, my car and her car. Even since then I looked through my car and the apartment. I felt sick to my stomach every single time I thought about it. Eventually I gave up hope and just asked for a new one during Christmas. Christmas passed and I got a Canon PowerShot SD450. Amazing little camera. I go and clean up my car today because it was starting to get messy. I look behind the passenger seat and suddenly there it was… the old Canon PowerShot S400. The first 5 minutes were shock. Then I showed my parents who were shocked as well. I called up Cam and she couldn’t believe it either. My mom first offered to buy it but my dad dissuaded her as my dad wants to get her one like I got for Xmas (SD450 from Canon) so after Cam locates the memory she will her own digital camera. The charger & leather case were still in my car. All in all… I was astounded. I had checked the place where I found it at least 10 times, if not more. Oh well… I am just glad its back. I’m also happy that the camera I got for Christmas was better then my old camera.

Well christmas is almost here. Only days away. Today my 6 1/2 day vacation (half of it is paid as well ;-)) started. I went to bed at 9am-ish with out any problems but when I woke up at 3pm I woke up with a damn cold. Since then it has worsened as well. First it was just dizyness and just unwillingness to do anything, now I am dripping and sneezing like crazy. I know for sure I got this from Cam and her cold only lasted 2 days so hopefully with plenty of sleep and enough relaxation (which I was planning to do anyways) this curse, I mean cold will be gone from my system on Christmas.
Only three more gifts need to arrive. Today the mailbox was completely empty so I am hoping that these gifts will arrive before the 25th. Thankfully one has a tracking number and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but the other gifts are shipped by the unreliable USPS media mail (where it can take from 3 - 30 days and it doesn’t even depend on location, trust me on that one).
Last thing. Last week a fellow colleague (Matt) came to work with a lappie that had Ubuntu installed on it. Well last weekend I converted over (having tried Fedora, Mandrake and Suse) and I found myself hooked. Matt is right, this is comfortable for anyone to use. Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntulinux.org) is based off of the conservative but very stable Debian distribution. I can honestly say that it is very stable. The only thing I had to do was update the default ipw2200 driver & firmware to a higher version. The defaults just wouldn’t talk with my Linksys WRT54G router. Only thing I hope they will add in the next release is WPA support. There is a way to get it in there but its messy. Right now I have had to reduce my wireless router settings from WPA to WEP. Not very happy about that, but I don’t think I am in any significant danger as I hardly doubt that anyone around here hacks Wifi networks for a living and if they do, my laptop can pick up on 3 other (using default shipped names & default router passwords) wifi networks.
